3D quietly shows up in places you would not expect. I found a great example of that at IKEA in A Coruña.
At the checkout area there is a handheld barcode scanner, and someone designed a custom holder for it that’s 3D printed.
The edges are nicely finished, rounded and smooth. Which tells me whoever designed this knows the fillet comand in his CAD program.
I went looking for this design on Thingiverse, Printables and the usual places, and came up empty. If IKEA designed this in-house for their own stores, it would be a genuinely nice gesture to release the STL files. It is a small, useful part, and the kind of thing plenty of other stores would happily print themselves.
It would not be the first time IKEA and 3D printing crossed paths either.
